First LG Battery Backup Has Gone Live in Charles Town, West Virginia!

By mtvSolar | July 20, 2017 | Category mtvSolar

Our first LG battery backup system is now operational.  The customer had us install a StorEdge with 32 SolarWorld 285w modules a year ago in anticipation of the battery.  Now, below are the details of this major milestone:

The battery package is opened and inspected

The bracket is mounted to the wall

The battery is hung on the bracket and secured

The first LG Chem wall mounted lithium battery is ready for wiring

The workhorse of the system is the SolarEdge “StorEdge”.  This particular installation has 32 SolarWorld 285w modules feeding it for 9.12kW total DC capacity.

After programming, the battery receives its first charge from the sun.

It takes this system less than 2 hours to reach a full charge on a sunny day!

The battery is taking a 5.3kW charge from the solar, while the rest backfeeds the utility.

A functional test was conducted to run the critical loads off the battery.  In this particular instance, the solar was producing over 9kW so the battery kept charging even while the utility wasn’t available, and the critical loads kept running!
